Greg Shepherd is a field agronomist and sustainability specialist for Beck’s Hybrids, an ISRC industry partner. He serves as a representative on the ISRC’s Industry Advisory Council (IAC) for Beck’s.
Shepherd works with a team of Becks salespeople and dealers to serve farmers and help them succeed. He says that can mean anything from sitting down with a farmer to discuss what adjustments to make to ensure the success of their next crop, giving a presentation on the results of our findings from our Becks Practical Farm Research location, or walking beside them in one of their fields to investigate a concern or estimate yield.
Shepherd says, “Working with the ISRC is educational, enjoyable and energizing all at the same time. The new research projects we review are fascinating. The other members on the council represent some of the brightest people in our field from around the country. I enjoy that we are all excited to talk about how we can solidify, support and further the amazing soybean!”
Born and raised on a farm in Adair County, Iowa; Shepherd went on to earn his undergraduate degree in environmental science from Central College in Pella and his master’s in Sustainable Agriculture from Iowa State University. Shepherd, wife Aimee and their four sons live on a farm near Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, that belonged to Aimee’s grandparents. They manage farm operations in both Adair and Henry Counties.
In 2020, the Shepherd family received the Iowa Farm Environmental Leader Award for their efforts in keeping soil healthy and improving water quality. The Shepherds farm row crops and raise a seed stock herd of Charolais cattle.
