ISRC Funds Three New Soybean Research Projects
The Iowa Soybean Research Center’s (ISRC) Industry Advisory Council (IAC) met in September for their annual meeting to consider proposed soybean research ideas and offer guidance on how to best invest $414,000 in new funding available. Over the past year, the IAC added four new industry partners, making for a total of 20 industry partners represented on the council along with three soybean farmer representatives. Read more...
ISRC Holds Think Tank on Soybean Production Research
In September, prior to the center’s annual Industry Advisory Council meeting, the ISRC held a Think Tank to identify challenges and needs for soybean production research. Nearly 40 individuals representing Iowa soybean farmers, agricultural industry, ISU researchers and the Iowa Soybean Association participated in the event. Read more...

ISRC’s SoyFest Highlights the Many Uses of Soy
In celebration of Soybean Month in Iowa, the ISRC hosted its second biennial SoyFest on August 23. The free, outdoor event on ISU’s central campus was once again a big hit with students during their first week of fall classes at ISU. Students learned about the everyday and new and emerging uses of soy through a variety of vendors, ISU research labs and student clubs and were treated to free foods containing soy. Read more...
Volunteers Package 38,000 Meals for Meals from the Heartland
The ISRC hosted a Meals from the Heartland food-packaging event on August 2. More than 50 student, faculty and staff volunteers in different color-coordinated team Pod Squad T-shirts (many from the colleges of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Human Sciences and Engineering) packaged 38,000 meals in two hours at the Hansen Agriculture Student Learning Center. It was the center's third annual event, all made possible by Cargill financial donations to cover the cost of the ingredients for Taco Mac meals, which contain soy protein flour, enriched pasta and a vitamin- and mineral-fortified cheese. On August 2, ISRC staff coordinated a visit by the ISA Experience Class to ISU’s Field Extension Education Laboratory (FEEL) and the Agricultural Engineering and Agronomy (AEA) Research Farm, both located near Boone, IA. Read more...
ISRC Farm Tour Stops at Wessling Farm and Clayton Farms
The ISRC hosted its annual farm tour on August 7 for Iowa State researchers, staff and graduate students in ag-related departments. This year’s tour visited the Wessling Farm near Grand Junction, IA and Clayton Farms at ISU’s Research Park in Ames, IA. Read more...
ISRC Staff Attend Coordinated Soybean Centers Group Meeting and USSRC Soybean Research Forum and Think Tank
The Coordinated Soybean Centers Group held its annual meeting in Indianapolis the day preceding the U.S. Soybean Research Collaborative’s (USSRC) Soybean Research Forum and Think Tank in July. The group consists of university and state soybean association personnel from Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio and new member North Carolina. Read more...
Seed Science Webinar Series Coming in November
The Graduate Program in Seed Technology and Business will be holding its free Seed Science and Technology webinar series on Tuesdays at noon in November. This year’s topics include optical sorting, seed treatment and testing, and precision agriculture. Read more...
ICM Conference Will be Held December 4-5, 2023
Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will hold the 34th Integrated Crop Management Conference at Prairie Meadows Racetrack, Casino and Hotel in Altoona, Iowa, Monday, December 4 and Tuesday, December 5, 2023.

Mueller Co-leader for ISU Part of Multistate Award
Iowa State was among the land-grant institutions recently honored with a 2023 Excellence in Multistate Research Award for its work with the NCERA 137 multistate research project, Soybean Diseases. ISRC affiliate Daren Mueller, plant pathology, entomology and microbiology, a co-leader on the project, accepted the award at this year’s Experiment Station Committee on Organization and Policy meeting in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Singh Appointed to the George Sprague Professorship
ISRC affiliate Danny Singh, agronomy, was appointed to the George Sprague Professorship by ISU’s Department of Agronomy. The Sprague endowed chair was established in 2005 and is funded by the Agronomy Endowment. Sprague is considered one of the fathers of modern maize breeding. Read more...
