ISRC to Host SoyFest 2023 on August 23
In celebration of Soybean Month in Iowa, the ISRC will host its second biennial SoyFest on August 23, 2023, on Iowa State University’s central campus near Parks Library. This free, outdoor celebration of all things soy is held during the first week of fall classes at ISU and features Iowa vendors, ISU research labs and student clubs highlighting the importance of soy and its many uses in everyday life from food to new and innovative products. SoyFest will offer grilled pork and soy-veggie burgers, soy-related snacks, robotic and other technological demonstrations, soy-themed prize giveaways, carnival games, a special drawing for students, soy-based ice cream and a visit by Cy. Ag Ingenuity and Meristem Join the ISRC
The ISRC reached a new milestone with the addition of Ag Ingenuity Partners, the research division of Advanced Agrilytics, and Meristem Crop Performance as its newest ISRC industry partners. The center now has 20 industry advisory partners to provide guidance on research needs and funding priorities for the center. Read more...

ISRC Staff Help with Spring Research Plot Planting
In mid May, ISRC staff participated in the planting process for the Tylka Nematology Research Program’s SCN soybean variety trials northwest of Ames. This was the first time ISRC staff experienced soybean planting and soil sampling first-hand. Soil samples will be collected from the research plots again in the fall after harvest. Read more...
ISRC Holds Staff Retreat
The ISRC staff met in June to plan for the center’s annual Industry Advisory Council (IAC) meeting, which will take place on September 8th at the ISU Alumni Center. The day will start with a “Think Tank” session involving IAC members and additional invited researchers and farmers. The afternoon will involve discussion of 14 soybean research ideas submitted to the ISRC for consideration of funding. Read more...
Get to Know IAC Rep: Mike Peterson, Peterson Genetics
Mike Peterson is the president and owner of Peterson Genetics, Inc., based in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He serves as Peterson Genetics’ representative on the ISRC’s Industry Advisory Council. Peterson Genetics is the leading provider of soybean germplasm to the North American soybean seed trade with a focus on research and development. Read more...
Researcher Spotlight: Marshall McDaniel
ISRC affiliate Marshall McDaniel is an associate professor of agronomy at Iowa State University. With a background in soil carbon and nutrient cycling, his outreach, research and teaching program focuses on soil-plant interactions. Read more...
ISA Provides Continued Research Funding to ISU
ISRC staff attended the Iowa Soybean Association’s summer Supply Committee meeting on June 27 and 28. The ISA Research Center for Farming Innovation (RCFI) team opened day one with updates on a variety of research projects and activities. Read more...
ISU Researchers Awarded Grant for Ag DIRT Project

O'Neal Named Sustainable Agriculture Co-Chair
Matt O’Neal, professor in plant pathology, entomology and microbiology and ISRC affiliate, was selected to serve a joint appointment alongside J. Arbuckle, professor in sociology and criminal justice, as Henry A. Wallace Chairs for Sustainable Agriculture at Iowa State University. The Wallace Chair provides leadership to develop and implement major educational and research programs on the sustainability of current and future agricultural practices. Read more...

Congratulations to ISRC affiliate Alison Robertson, plant pathology, entomology and microbiology, on being named a 2023 Fellow by the American Phytopathological Society (APS) for her contributions and impacts in research, teaching and extension. Read more...
Darr Selected for Regents Award for Faculty Excellence
ISRC affiliate Matt Darr, professor of agricultural and biosystems engineering, was selected for the Regents Award for Faculty Excellence. The award is presented by the state Board of Regents to recognize tenured faculty members who are outstanding university citizens and have rendered significant service to the university or the state of Iowa.
