ISRC Undergoes Center Review

The Iowa Board of Regents requires that each ISU center be reviewed every seven years, so the Iowa Soybean Research Center underwent a review in November. The purpose of the review was to get feedback on the effectiveness of the center’s activities and processes and to solicit feedback that may improve the functioning and effectiveness of the center moving forward. ISU College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Associate Dean for Research and Discovery Carolyn Lawrence-Dill provided guidance and oversight for the review. Read more...
ISA’s The State of Soy Features the ISRC and SCN
In December, ISA’s Senior Director of Information and Education Aaron Putze interviewed ISRC Director and professor of plant pathology, entomology and microbiology Greg Tylka, who is also a founding member of the SCN Coalition, for an episode of The State of Soy. The video features the growing problem of widespread loss of effectiveness of SCN resistance. Extension Holds Crop Advantage Meetings
Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is hosting its annual Crop Advantage Series at 14 locations across Iowa in January 2023. The meetings provide farmers with the most up-to-date, research-based crop production information ahead of the growing season with location specific information provided. Read more...
ISA to Hold Innovation to Profit Conference
The Iowa Soybean Association will host its Innovation to Profit Conference on Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 9am - 3pm at the FFA Enrichment Center adjacent to the Des Moines Area Community College campus in Ankeny, IA. ISA’s Research Center for Farming Innovation team will discuss research results, explain how to integrate in-field and edge-of-field strategies on the farm and give ideas to improve profitability. ISRC Co-sponsors 2022 National Soybean Nematode Conference
The ISRC served as a sponsor for the National Soybean Nematode Conference in Savannah, GA, December 14-16, 2022. ISA Senior Director of Research and North Central Soybean Research Program Executive Director Ed Anderson provided opening remarks. ISRC Director and ISU professor Greg Tylka was a keynote speaker.

Get to Know IAC Farmer Rep: Suzanne Shirbroun
Suzanne Shirbroun is one of three Iowa soybean farmer representatives serving on the ISRC’s Industry Advisory Council. The council serves to identify research needs in the areas of soybean production and protection for the center. Farmer representatives serve three-year terms on the council and provide feedback on what research topics are of importance to soybean farmers. Read more...
Researcher Spotlight: Arti Singh
ISRC affiliate Arti Singh is an assistant professor of agronomy at Iowa State University with more than 15 years of plant breeding experience. Her research focuses on utilization of advanced data analytics particularly machine and deep learning for early disease and stress signatures and genetic/genomic studies on abiotic and biotic stress resistance. ISU Researchers Host Training Session for Indigo Ag
On November 30 and December 1, Indigo Ag called on faculty from ISU’s plant pathology, entomology and microbiology (PPEM) department to provide up-to-date information and insights into their specialized areas.

NCSRP Funds Iowa State Researchers
The North Central Soybean Research Program (NCSRP) approved $4.59 million in funding for research in fiscal year 2023 to support 10 university-based projects. Iowa State researchers are involved in seven of those projects.

Singh selected for Women Impacting ISU Calendar
ISRC affiliate and assistant professor of agronomy Arti Singh was selected as one of several “Women Impacting ISU” and appears on the “2023 Women Impacting ISU Calendar. Each year, 12 women from a variety of disciplines and diverse backgrounds are selected by committee representatives from the Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics Student Programs and previous calendar honorees and members of the ISU community to highlight the important role women play at Iowa State University.
Licht elected to Story County Extension seat
Associate professor of agronomy Mark Licht was one of five people elected to Story County Agricultural Extension Council during the November 2022 elections.
